Network Hashrate
Network hashrate is the total search speed of every asic that is mining a coin right now. Your slice of that total is what sets your income.
What network hashrate is
Network hashrate cannot be counted exactly, since nobody polls every miner in the world. It gets estimated from difficulty and from how fast blocks come out. When blocks run ahead of schedule, power has been added, and the estimate goes up.
That gives it an important property: the figure is always approximate and always jumping about. Different services report different values for one and the same day, because they take different averaging windows. In the summer of 2026 the Bitcoin network holds around 950 EH/s, and that is an estimate rather than an instrument reading.
For you it is a divisor. Your hashrate divided by network hashrate gives your share of the daily issuance. An Antminer S21 at 200 TH/s is about two ten millionths of 950 EH/s, which comes to roughly 0.00013 BTC a day before electricity and the pool fee.
Network hashrate grows, your share falls, and there you have the whole unpleasant mechanic of mining. An asic works the same way for years while it brings in fewer coins. Only the exchange rate can make up for that, and we do not advise building its growth into a payback calculation.

How to put this to use
Count your share, not the absolute figures. Terahashes on their own say nothing until you divide them by the network exahashes.
Do not compare hashrate across networks. A terahash of SHA-256 and a terahash of kHeavyHash are different work, and adding them up makes as much sense as adding liters to kilometers.
Check how fresh the data in a calculator is. Some services update network figures rarely, and then the profit math comes out inflated. In our calculator the network data fills itself in automatically.
An example in numbers
With the network around 950 EH/s an asic at 200 TH/s holds about two ten millionths of it. Ten such asics give two millionths, and daily output grows in proportion. At the same time, if the network puts on a quarter over a year, your share shrinks by that same quarter without a single change to your equipment.

It is an estimate rather than a measurement. Services take different averaging windows, hence a spread of a few percent.
How is network hashrate tied to difficulty
Difficulty adjusts to hashrate: power arrives, blocks speed up, the network raises difficulty. The hashrate estimate is derived from difficulty and the pace of blocks in the first place.
Does growth of the network affect my electricity bill
No, the bill depends only on draw and your tariff. Network growth shrinks your share of the output, so profit gets squeezed from one side.
